oil on canvas, 30x40 inches....times are tough, the family divided and one child stands in silence.

You're avatart is very appealing and I'm glad it is. This work has a nice athmosphere, sort of sad, but in a musical way I'd say. Like a song by Spain or something, with a night feeling touch. nice. The face reminds me of a mask, one obsession I have. I like the way the main figure's arms and neck are so long and seem out of place wich gives it far more expression then normal anatomy. But that could just be me disliking the normal.

there's almost a tiny sense of understanding in the father's face; like he knows what he is going through, so he's going to try to find some way to go beyond it.

lovely piece.

i too can hear the music in this picture, and relate to the subject, which you put into an overwhelming piece of art. :+fav:, as always.

This evokes so much emotion. The music is almost audible to me. It is a gay tune, but he plays it slowly, durge-like, for his mood is so sad that all that he has to give is that tiny cupcake on the table; as the child stands in silence listening, understanding the love.

I can totally empathize with this.

Nice use of the drab colors (which is unusual for you) and the symbolism.

I think my favorite part has to be the carpet...I've been trying to get a viewpoint like this in some of my paintings forever, where you're looking both straight-on at the figure and straight down on the floor...

the distance between them really seems amplified, great job..

I like how the figure who could be the father looks like a clown . . . makes you think about the roles in the family.

I look at it from the money grinders prospective. The little girl looks pretty content just watching him. Where as he seems to feel foolish, standing there "preforming" as a clown. I feel his shame. The colors and angels of the walls just add to the lack luster atmosphere. A painting to morn over. In a good way. :-)

This rings true. You really captured the emotion of being a child and feeling alone and split. As with all of your work though there is a peace beneath it all. A feeling that somehow everything will be okay. Really amazing, dustcat. :+fav:

This is a dusty

It makes me wanna die

I guess that there is something more difficult than being depressively lonely ... being depressively lonely and yet obligated to cheer someone up ... give a life to someone.

I think this is one of your strongest expressions of the paintings I have seen ... I wont add it to my favs however because it reminds me of a mood I would much rather forget.
